Introduction: The dental clinic is an environment where the transmission of infectious diseases occurs easily. Examining the level of literacy of students regarding infections in dental clinics and also the effect of training courses on the level of literacy of students in infection control is essential. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the infection control course on the awareness and attitude of dental students in infection control. Materials and methods: In this analytical cross-sectional study, all dental students of Yasouj University of Medical Sciences were included in the study in 2020. Students' knowledge and attitude about infection control was measured using Samiari's valid and reliable questionnaire. Data were entered into SPSS software version 26 and analyzed using independent t test. Results: 132 students participated in the study (100% response rate). The mean and standard deviation of the awareness and attitude scores of the students who passed the infection control course were 12.59 ± 3.30 and 81.15 ± 10.64, respectively. The mean and standard deviation of the awareness and attitude scores of the students who did not pass the infection control course were 4.86 ± 2.43 and 63.60 ± 4.57, respectively. Statistical analysis shows a significant difference in the awareness and attitude of these two groups (P<0.001). Conclusion: The infection control course has a positive effect on the awareness and attitude of dental students regarding infection control. It is suggested that educational programs regarding infection control be held for students in different semesters in order to improve the awareness and attitude of dental students.
